Some of you who live in Woodbine, Iowa might recognize the one room schoolhouse in my photo above. It's the Merry Brook Schoolhouse Museum. Why am I posting a picture of a schoolhouse, you ask? Well, some of you already know my reason but I'll start from the beginning for those of you who don't.
I had received an email last month from The Iowan Magazine on images that they were looking for to have in future issues of their magazine. One image subject was iconic schoolhouses. I had no idea where to find any near me so I posted in a couple Facebook groups (Iowa's Loess Hills Photographers and Iowa Through The Lens) and the wonderful photographers in them helped me find some near me.
I went to photograph the Merry Brook schoolhouse two nights one weekend and came back with thirty images I believe. I sent in four of them to The Iowan so see if they'd be interested in using them. A few weeks after I sent the images in, I received another email from them saying they wanted to use one of my images. (Not the one pictured above.)
To say I was happy was an understatement. I was beyond excited. Getting a photo in a magazine is something I had hoped to accomplish when I started my journey in photography over 5 years ago. It has taken a while but the wait was definitely worth it.
And for those of you who are photographers in my area, I figured I would share the image wish list of the Iowan's so you can maybe send in some of your own Iowa images as well.
